Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that they continue to see the positive results of the program they are implementing with determination and said, “As we move forward in the disinflation period we have entered, we will continue to mobilize the labor force potential with sustainable and quality growth, create new employment opportunities and increase the long-term welfare of our citizens.”
TurkStat announced labor force statistics for April today. Accordingly, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and above decreased by 18 thousand people in April compared to the previous month and became 3 million 42 thousand people.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said the following in his statement after the data:
We continue to see the positive results of our decisive program.
According to seasonally adjusted data, unemployment data for April 2024 continues to decrease with 8.5 percent. The unemployment rate, which performed well compared to the previous month and our MTP expectations, decreased by 1.5 points compared to April last year.
In April 2024, employment increased by 983 thousand people compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 32.6 million.
Youth and women’s employment is one of the most important issues that we closely monitor. In April, youth unemployment rate was 14.5 percent, the lowest level since 2005, when monthly youth unemployment data started to be released. On an annual basis, unemployment among women decreased by 2.9 points to 11.1 percent. This positive trend in youth and women’s employment is promising on the road to raising the potential of our economy.
As we move forward in the disinflation period we have entered, we will continue to mobilize the labor force potential, create new employment opportunities and increase the long-term welfare of our citizens through sustainable and high-quality growth.
