German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said Ukraine urgently needs more air defenses to protect it from Russian attacks.
“Ukraine urgently needs more air defense to protect it from Russian missile and drone attacks,” Annalena Baerbock said before her visit to Kiev.
Reminding that he and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius launched a global initiative for more air defense systems for Ukraine, Baerbock said:
“We have so far raised around €1 billion to provide additional support for Ukraine’s air defense forces and we are working hard to increase this. We are putting our hands under every stone several times. We have even taken action for an additional air defense system, the Patriot unit.”
Baerbock said that efforts must be made to ensure Ukraine’s survival and that Ukrainians will be able to live a self-determined life in the future.
“The issue of Ukraine’s EU membership is the necessary geopolitical consequence of this war that Russia is waging in violation of international law,” Baerbock said, adding that Ukraine is fighting for its own freedom and the freedom of all of Europe.
“With our partners around the world and a strong alliance of business, civil society and local governments, we will make a long-term investment in Ukraine’s future,” Baerbock said, noting that the Rebuilding Ukraine Conference will be held in Berlin in June.
