The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over “reports of a coup attempt” against the government in Bolivia.
“We are deeply concerned by reports of an attempted coup against the elected Bolivian Government,” the Ministry said in a written statement.
In the statement, it was hoped that the democratic order and stability in Bolivia would be “quickly restored”:
“We hereby reiterate our opposition to all coups and military interventions and strongly condemn all actions aimed at overthrowing legitimate governments.”
Bolivian President Luis Arce stated that some military units in the country had been unlawfully mobilized and asked the military to respect democracy.
