In forest fires in Çanakkale’s Eceabat and Ezine districts, 680 hectares of land the size of 952 football fields burned.
A fire that started in agricultural land near Kumköy village of Eceabat district of Çanakkale at around 16.05 on June 18 spread to the forest area with the effect of the wind. Regional Directorate of Forestry teams responded to the fire within 6 minutes. Büyükanafartalar and Küçükanafartalar villages were evacuated due to the fire. The historical Gallipoli Peninsula was closed to visitors. The fire was fought with 970 personnel, including 10 airplanes, 7 helicopters, 73 land vehicles and other construction equipment, 402 General Directorate of Forestry personnel, 290 vehicles of public institutions and organizations. On June 8, 575 hectares of forest fire, the size of 805 football fields, 340 hectares of which were forested and the rest were non-forested, were burned in the forest fire, which broke out on June 8 and was brought under control after 24 hours. In the villages of Kiremitoba and Aladağ, which were evacuated immediately, some houses, roofs and barns loaded with hay were damaged by fire. In Ezine district of Çanakkale, a fire that started in a garbage dump at around 16.30 on June 20 spread to the forest area with the effect of the wind. Some houses, roofs and barns loaded with hay were damaged by fire in Kiremitoba and Aladağ villages, which were evacuated in the fire. The fire was brought under control after about 7 hours after the intensive intervention of Çanakkale Regional Directorate of Forestry teams, helicopters, airplanes, many land vehicles and forest personnel from the air.105 hectares of land the size of 147 football fields were damaged in the fire.
