While interest in home sports, which has become widespread with online courses after the Covid-19 pandemic, continues, the cost of the products required for entry-level activity at home hovers around 1,500 liras.
Celebrated by the World Health Organization every year on May 10, “Move for Health Day” aims to raise awareness about the prevention of non-communicable diseases in society and the health benefits of physical activity. Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, the trend of doing sports at home has become increasingly popular in terms of both time and cost.
While the monthly membership fees of gyms in big cities vary between 1,500 and 7,000 liras, many people are creating their own sports areas at home to reduce costs and use time more efficiently. The cost of doing sports at home varies depending on the equipment chosen. For example, a yoga mat can cost between 100 lira and 2,500 lira, while a pilates ball can cost between 200 lira and 1,500 lira. In addition, the prices of equipment such as dumbbells and treadmills can also vary depending on the weight and brand to be used.
Sports trainer Şevval Karaaslan stated that during the pandemic period, people switched to working from home and lived a more isolated life. Karaaslan stated that in this process, people increased their physical activity by doing sports at home and thus had the chance to protect their health. He also emphasized that there is no need for expensive equipment for sports that can be done at home, and that effective exercises can be done even with simple items found at home.
Online classes have also attracted great interest recently. Yoga instructor Deniz Okumuş said that the number of people participating online from home has increased, allowing them to use their time more efficiently by avoiding problems such as traffic. Okumuş stated that the age range of participants is wide and that these programs are suitable for people of all age groups.
This awareness day and the growing trend of home sports continue to emphasize the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and incorporating physical activity into daily routines.
