Senegal Takes Key Steps to Support Agriculture and Empower People with Disabilities
On December 9, 2024, Senegal made significant strides in supporting its agricultural sector and empowering people with disabilities. As part of the Agri-Jeunes Integration Support Project, materials valued at over 67 million CFA francs were distributed to individuals with disabilities. This initiative aims to promote their economic independence and help them engage in income-generating activities.
Special Support for People with Disabilities
Alassane Ba, the manager of Agri-Jeunes, explained the project’s objectives:
- To assist individuals with disabilities in developing income-generating activities such as gardening, livestock farming, and trade.
- To enhance the economic autonomy of people with mobility limitations, enabling them to participate more actively in society.
As part of the initiative, 46 individuals received support packages containing gardening tools, livestock equipment, and trade materials.
Feedback from Beneficiaries
One of the beneficiaries, poultry farmer Fatou Diop, expressed her satisfaction with the assistance, saying, “Today, I received free feed bags for my chicks. Poultry farming is not easy, especially for people with disabilities, but with this support, I can make a better start.”
Diounkou Souleymane Massaly, President of the Association of People with Disabilities, also praised Agri-Jeunes for the donation and thanked them for their efforts.
The Broader Vision of the Project
The Agri-Jeunes Project aims to reduce unemployment and ensure greater participation of people with disabilities in the community through economic activities. Such initiatives are expected to improve the living standards of individuals while positively impacting the overall development of Senegal’s agricultural sector.
