Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Arrives in Ankara for Talks Led by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Ankara on Monday evening, leading a delegation for critical discussions mediated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. These ongoing talks, now in their third round, aim to address growing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over a contentious agreement involving Somaliland. Mogadishu views the agreement as a threat to its sovereignty and has demanded its annulment before engaging in direct talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Somali delegation, including Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, intelligence chief Mahad Mohamed Salad, former Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled, and Foreign Minister Ahmed Muallim Fiqi, underscores the government’s firm stance on safeguarding its territorial integrity. A Somali government representative emphasized, “Somalia is committed to preserving its sovereignty and unity. Any dialogue must uphold these principles.”

The discussions come at a crucial moment for Somalia, as officials aim to ensure recognition of the country’s unified territories amidst ongoing disputes over Ethiopian intervention.
