In the report published by CLAIM, it was reported that there are more than 5 anti-Muslim incidents on average every day in Germany.

It was stated that a total of 1926 anti-Muslim incidents were recorded last year, and about 90 of them were identified as attacks on places such as mosques, Muslim cemeteries and restaurants.

It was stated that the number of 1926 anti-Muslim racist incidents means an increase of 114 compared to 2022 and this situation is recorded as “an extremely alarming development”.

It was emphasized that it is estimated that there are more unrecorded cases.

62 percent of those affected by anti-Muslim incidents are women
“People are targeted because they are Muslims or because they are assumed to be Muslims,” the report said, pointing out that these cases increased rapidly after October 7, 2023, with 679 anti-Muslim incidents recorded between October 7 and December 31, 2023 alone.

In the report, it was shared that 66 percent of the documented cases were verbal attacks such as insults, threats and slander.

It was stated in the report that verbal attacks were followed by discrimination with 19 percent and “hurtful behavior” with 15 percent, which included assault, property damage, arson and other cases of violence, and it was pointed out that 62 percent of those affected by anti-Muslim incidents were women.

“A review of the cases shows that marginalization, discrimination, humiliation and, in the worst cases, physical violence can happen to Muslims and those perceived as Muslims in all walks of life and is an everyday experience,” the report said.

Rima Hanano, director of CLAIM, stated that the huge increase in anti-Muslim attacks and discrimination in 2023 is worrying and said: “Streets, buses or mosques have not been safe places for Muslims and those perceived as such for a long time.”

Hanano noted that anti-Muslim racism is more socially accepted than ever before and has found a place at the center of society.
