Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who lives in Eskişehir, allegedly received 700 TL compensation from PTT Kargo for his cargo, which could be worth up to 200 thousand liras, which he sent in January. Stating that he has been victimized for 5 months, Sarıkaya stated that he reported the situation to the necessary places and stated that he will seek his rights.
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who lives in Eskişehir, turned to the antique business after retiring from journalism and writing. Sarıkaya, who also works as a collector of written works and as an expert in antique auctions, wanted to send the ‘rubu board’ to Istanbul by PTT Cargo last January. But according to Sarıkaya’s claim, his cargo was never delivered to the address he wanted. For 5 months, the antique enthusiast, who did not leave any door to find out where his cargo was, could not achieve a result. Stating that he could not get a healthy answer from the authorities in this process, Sarıkaya claimed that his cargo was lost at the end of 5 months and that 700 TL was deposited into his account by PTT. Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who found the amount deposited funny in return for the loss of his antique of tens of thousands of liras, complained that PTT officials were indifferent. Stating that he reported the situation to the necessary places, Sarıkaya stated that he will seek his rights.
“I sent cargo in the first month, now we are in the fifth month”
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya said, “I have been trading since I was about 17 years old, that is, I have been engaged in trade for 37 years. I am 57 years old now. I have worked with PTT Cargo as long as I can remember. I preferred it because it has a corporate identity and officiality. I sent cargo in January, we are now in the fifth month, as a result of my 5-month struggle, my cargo was lost due to people I could not reach, including the PTT General Directorate, and I was victimized. When I was victimized, I became news, so I felt the need to make a statement in front of the PTT Eskişehir Regional Directorate today at the point of seeking my rights. We have the documents we sent about the loss. Of course, we wish that such things would not happen, that people would not be victimized or that there would be accessibility. I mean, what I regret the most is that there is no one to contact at the PTT General Directorate rather than the amount of the commodity I lost. The lack of messages during the cargo process, not being able to reach the authorities in any way and not being taken seriously made me very upset as a citizen.”
“An amount of 700 TL was credited to my account”
Stating that the ‘rubu board’ he sent was from the Ottoman period and its value was at least 35 thousand TL, Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya said that he found the compensation of 700 TL funny and continued as follows: “In the Ottoman period, there is something called a rubu board used by the Ottomans related to astronomy and the solar calendar, which we see from time to time in the auctions we come across. In other words, a commodity in the form of a rubu board made on a wooden tree. From time to time, we send them to our friends among ourselves, we have situations where they are exchanged or they change hands for a price. We can also buy them at auctions. We also had a similar tool in the form of a rubu board. However, PTT Cargo contacts the other party, they send us a letter months later, officially documenting that it was lost and saying that we have a right to compensation. They convey this to the buyer, but the seller is not informed. So he called me, he said, ‘The right to compensation has arisen, you as the sender should receive it, can you apply for it’. I came to Eskişehir PTT Directorate again, I made my application to the cargo service. They told me that I had to submit a petition and asked the cost. I told them that there was a minimum price of 35 thousand liras, the end of this is open, that is, there is a market value up to 150-200 thousand liras. However, after the petition I wrote, a price of 700 TL was deposited in my bank iban number I gave. In other words, in return for 35 thousand liras, let alone depositing half of it, that is, giving alms or fitrah, it was like making fun of it. Moreover, in this process, neither the PTT General Directorate, nor AKIM, BIMER, BIMER, CIMER, nor the PTT Eskişehir Chief Directorate, nor the authorities there remained in the struggle I have waged. I could not reach anyone in any way. If it is found, that price will be demanded from me. It is so tragicomic that I wish my product worth 35 thousand TL was found so that I could return the 700 TL they gave me. If we cannot trust the PTT Directorate today, where will we trust? The situation of the cargo of private companies is already known. I will use my legal rights on the condition that all my legal rights are reserved. I will fight to the end. Maybe I will spend 70 thousand liras in return for that 700 liras, but at least I want this to be an example. I want everyone to know how mediocre PTT cargo is, how much it is not loyal to its work and by people who are not competent. I invite the PTT General Manager to resign.”
