12 defendants, 5 of whom are arrested, including Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz from CHP, appeared before the judge for the first time at the 6th Assize Court regarding the cable car accident in Antalya, in which 1 person died and 7 people were injured.
Five people, including Mesut Kocagöz, the former chairman of the board of directors of ANET, the cable car operator, and current Kepez Mayor, were arrested in connection with the cable car accident that occurred in Konyaaltı district on April 12, in which 1 person lost his life, 7 people were injured and 174 stranded people were rescued in 23 hours. Kocagöz’s appeal against his detention was also rejected. Kocagöz’s lawyers waited for the expert report to object to his detention again. After the expert report was added to the file, the indictment prepared by the prosecutor’s office was sent to Antalya 6th High Criminal Court.
In the 36-page indictment, 150 people, including Memiş Gümüş, who lost his life in the accident, were named as complainants. In the same indictment, 12 people, including Kepez Mayor-elect Mesut Kocagöz, ANET Deputy General Manager Ahmet Buğra Samsunlu, Okan Erol and Serkan Yellice, were named as defendants. The prosecutor’s office requested 12 defendants to be sentenced for ‘negligently endangering traffic safety’ and ‘negligently causing death and injury’.
7 AT PRIMARY FAULT, 5 AT SECONDARY FAULT
In the indictment, Mesut Kocagöz, Ahmet Buğra Samsunlu, Edip Kemal Bahadır, Serdar Tezcan, Okan Erol, Serkan Yellice and Suphi Kaplan were found to be at primary fault, while Orhan Karaoğlan, Kazım Kılıç, Hüseyin Ay, Özgür Ermiş and Aziz Azizoğlu were found to be at secondary fault. The prosecutor’s office asked for the defendants to be sentenced to up to 27 years in prison each. The indictment was accepted by Antalya 6th High Criminal Court.
FIRST HEARING TODAY
The first hearing held today at Antalya 6th High Criminal Court was attended by 12 defendants, including Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, and the complainants. Security measures were taken in the corridors of the courthouse due to the heavy crowd. CHP Deputy Chairman Gökhan Zeybek, CHP Antalya Provincial Chairman Nail Kamacı, CHP Antalya MPs, CHP mayors and many others watched the hearing. The hearing started at 09:30 after identification.
