The Norwegian government has signed an agreement to stockpile 30,000 tons of grain to “prepare for contingencies”.
According to the statement made by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway will stockpile 30 thousand tons of grain according to the agreement signed by the Norwegian Minister of Agriculture and Food Geir Pollestad and 4 private companies.
The grain will be stored in the companies’ facilities but will belong to the Norwegian government.
In the statement, it was stated that the decision was taken to “be prepared for unexpected situations”.
Speaking to NRK radio broadcasting in Norway, Pollestad noted that various stock contracts will be signed to increase reserves until 2029.
Grain storage areas in Norway were closed in 2003 on the grounds that they were “no longer necessary”.
