General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), Signed on November 1st.

Committee Led by Prof. Maikoréma Zakari to Rewrite Niger’s History

This committee, led by Prof. Maikoréma Zakari, is composed of a few academics with the potential to bring together the country’s leading historians and researchers.

This is a pioneering initiative aimed at rewriting Niger’s history, which is largely influenced by colonialism in its current version.

An African proverb says, “Until lions have their own historians, tales of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”

It should be noted that for several months, the Nigerien government has launched an operation to rename some streets and monuments in Niamey. For instance, Place Monteuil was renamed Place Thomas Sankara to honor the former Burkinabe president, who inspired the struggle against Western imperialism, and Place de l’Hôtel de Ville was renamed Place Djibo Bakany to pay tribute to the unionist and politician.
