An anchor thrown by a ship into the harbor in Izmit Bay hit the BOTAS pipeline. The gas was cut off at the last moment and disaster was averted.
A foreign-flagged cargo ship carrying cargo to a port in Kocaeli İzmit dropped anchor near Osmangazi Bridge.
However, the anchor anchored by the ship hit the pipeline belonging to BOTAŞ.
After the incident, BOTAŞ teams intervened quickly by cutting off the gas flow. Repair works were started on the damaged pipeline.
The 2 captains of the ship were detained after the incident.
