The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will start in 30 days. Team Turkey has qualified 85 athletes in 18 branches from Turkey to go to the Olympics.

There are 30 days left until the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024. The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, which France will host for the third time after 1900 and 1924, will be held on July 26 at 22.00 Turkish time on the Seine River.

Lit on April 17 in Olympia, the birthplace of the Ancient Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch continues its journey in France, where it arrived on May 8. The Olympic rings, the symbol of the Olympic Games, were placed on the Eiffel Tower, the symbol of Paris, where the games will be held. Made of recycled steel in line with the organization’s sustainability mission, the 5 rings, 95 meters long and 43 meters high, greet visitors in all their glory.

As the quota competitions for Paris 2024 continue, 85 national athletes have so far achieved Olympic quotas. Athletes will represent Turkey in 18 branches including artistic gymnastics, shooting, athletics, badminton, cycling, boxing, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, rowing, table tennis, modern pentathlon, archery, taekwondo, volleyball, swimming and sailing.

As the Olympic Games are just a short time away, Türkiye İş Bankası, the official supporter of the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK) in May 2022, aims to raise Olympic awareness in our country, to encourage more young people to participate in this organization, and to instill sports habits in children by accompanying athletes during the Olympic Games.

“Our national athletes will represent our country in Paris in the best way possible”

Suat Sözen, Deputy General Manager of İşbank, emphasized the excitement that Turkey’s journey to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is just a month away and said: “Our athletes, their coaches, related branch federations, their families have been preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympics for a long time with great discipline, dedication and determination. They are in an extremely intense, tiring and exciting process. Our athletes will reveal the gains and knowledge they have gained during the preparation period in the competitions to be held in the Olympic Village. I believe that our young people will represent our country in the best way possible in Paris. As the quota races of our national athletes continue, we continue to wait excitedly together. As of today, 85 athletes have received quotas in 18 branches. I congratulate all our athletes who have received a visa for Paris 2024 and wish success to our athletes whose quota struggle continues.”

Stating that there are many successful young people in our country and many more undiscovered gems in sports in addition to the national athletes who are among the best in the world, Sözen said, “We continue to support our athletes, knowing that our young people will always make us proud and make us proud when they are provided with the appropriate opportunities.”

Paris 2024 focuses on three topics: environment, gender equality and inclusion. Paris 2024 is being called the ‘greenest’ Games in Olympic history. The previous Summer Olympic Games were estimated to have emitted an average of 3.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. The goal in Paris is to halve this. To this end, 95 percent of the organization’s infrastructure will be derived from existing or temporary sources. Low-carbon buildings, renewable energy and sustainable catering will be used.

The Olympic Village will be transformed into a living space for 12 thousand people after the organization. Housing, offices and shops will be built on the site, which will be seen as a legacy, and a sustainable city quarter will be created. Some of the medals to be awarded to the athletes will be made of iron that was removed during the renovation of the Eiffel Tower in the 20th century and stored for years. This will send a message of both respect for the past and environmental awareness.

5,250 male and 5,250 female athletes will sweat for medals. In the games organized in 1900 in Paris, where women competed for the first time, the proportion of women among the total participants was 2.2 percent.

The opening ceremony will be held outside the stadium for the first time. The opening of Paris 2024 will be watched by 300 thousand spectators on a 6-kilometer course along the Seine River. 10,500 athletes will greet the spectators from boats.

The marathon race will be open to public participation for the first time. Amateur athletes who have won degrees in various races organized in France will compete on the same course with Olympic athletes.
