4 arrest warrants in rabid dog case

In Şanlıurfa, an arrest warrant was issued for 4 people who raided the mukhtar’s office and wrote “Killer” on the doors and walls in opposition to the collection of animals in the rabies risk zone. On the other hand, the Metropolitan Municipality was fined for giving 28 dogs to Buket Özgünlü Boyacı, the president of the Association of Paws for Life, who was arrested in Ankara, in violation of the legislation.

The dog that bit a citizen in Şanlıurfa last week turned out to be rabid. While the citizen was taken under treatment at the hospital, the rabid dog died. After the incident, a partial quarantine was started in Batıkent Neighborhood of Eyyübiye district. The municipality teams went to the neighborhood, together with the mukhtar Halil Kaya, started to collect the dogs by knocking them out with a drug needle.

The footage of a citizen using disproportionate force to force a rabid dog to the ground on the day of the incident and the municipality teams holding the dogs they had knocked unconscious by their feet and indiscriminately throwing them into the body of the vehicle were reflected on a cell phone camera. After the footage was shared on social media, animal lovers from different provinces of Turkey went to Batıkent Neighborhood after making a press statement and wrote “Killer” on the doors and walls of the mukhtar’s office. The animal lovers also argued with the neighborhood residents and the mukhtar’s relatives, and then left the area.

Arrest warrant issued

An investigation was launched by the governorship against the people who went to Batıkent Neighborhood Mukhtar’s Office and wrote “Murderer”. In the investigation, work has been started to catch 4 people, including the person who wrote the article, on charges of “Damage to Public Property, Insult and Threat”.

Penalty to Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality

On the other hand, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality was also fined for giving 28 dogs from the shelter in Siverek to Buket Özgünlü Boyacı, President of the Association of Paws for Life, in violation of the legislation. Administrative fines were imposed on the municipality and the people who carried out the transaction.

He was arrested in Ankara

Buket Özgünlü Boyacı, President of the Paws for Life Association, had loaded some dogs from the Metropolitan Municipality’s shelter in Şanlıurfa, where she had come to protest the culling of stray animals, into a vehicle and took them to Ankara. Boyacı, who was detained for taking animals in the rabies risk zone to Ankara, was arrested, while the dogs were taken under protection.
