Historic capture in Mersin: 1 billion TL smuggling prevented

In the operation carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams in Mersin, a smuggling attempt worth 1 billion TL was prevented and a historical capture was made. In the operation carried out in Kocaeli Port, various types of commercial goods worth approximately 22 million TL were caught.

As a result of the intelligence activities of the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement of the Ministry of Trade, in a joint operation with the teams of Mersin Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, the teams suspected containers declared as humanitarian aid materials.

The containers, which were closely followed by the teams, were sent to the x-ray scanning device upon increasing suspicions. Upon receiving suspicious density as a result of the scanning, the teams, whose suspicions increased, carried out a physical search of the container.

Smuggling with a market value of approximately 1 billion Turkish liras was uncovered

As a result of a detailed search carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams, 6 containers of 130 thousand kilos of toys and 2 containers of fabric-type commercial goods were seized under the guise of humanitarian aid materials.

As a result of the operation, it was determined that the market value of the smuggled goods seized was 1 billion Turkish liras. The related investigation continues at Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Those who used toys in their illegal trade were caught by Customs Enforcement

Within the scope of the risk analysis studies carried out by Kocaeli Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams, suspicious containers in Kocaeli Port were taken under surveillance.

The containers, which were closely monitored by the Ministry of Trade Customs Enforcement teams, were seen increasingly suspicious and sent to the x-ray scanning device. Upon receiving suspicious density from the containers as a result of the scanning process, the teams, whose suspicions increased, carried out a physical search of the containers.

22 million Turkish lira worth of commercial goods were seized

As a result of the detailed searches of the Customs Enforcement teams, a total of 248 thousand 639 commercial goods were detected in 4 containers in 7 items, including 197 thousand 548 toys, 2 thousand 592 fans, 28 thousand 800 lasers, 575 glasses, 2 thousand 484 bags, 7 thousand 950 inflatable balls, 8 thousand 690 horse and catch game sets. It was determined that the market value of the smuggled goods captured as a result of the operation was approximately 22 million Turkish Liras. The investigation on the subject continues before the Kocaeli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

As a result of the successful operations carried out at two different points with the meticulous work of the Ministry of Trade Customs Enforcement teams, smuggling worth a total of 1 billion 22 million Turkish lira was prevented.
