Canadian Correctional Service officials announced that a state of emergency was declared on Friday in the Cote-Nord region due to forest fires that have been raging for days in the province of Quebec.
Authorities announced that inmates in the Port-Cartier high-security prison were transferred to different prisons due to the fires.
Noting that the necessary measures have been taken for the transfer of prisoners, officials stated that approximately 1000 residents will also be evacuated.
It was noted that forest fires continued to rage in the region.
