Ahbap Association President and rock music artist Haluk Levent reacted to Israel’s attacks on Gaza at the United Nations (UN) Civil Society Organizations meeting. Levent, who changed the text of his speech at the last minute, asked Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, “How can you justify the killing of more than 10,000 children?” Levent explained the details of his speech.

Haluk Levent, President of the Ahbap Association, which has made a name for itself with its aid activities, spoke at the United Nations Non-Governmental Organizations meeting held in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.

Levent, who drew attention to the children of Gaza in his speech, said the following:

  • I am here today not only as a rock artist but also as the founder and chairman of Ahbap, an organization for goodness.
  • I came here to share some of my projects and suggestions with you, but when I woke up this morning I learned that more than 600 thousand children in Gaza are in great danger.

‘But my conscience did not allow me…’

Speaking to CNN Türk about his speech, Haluk Levent explained why he was invited to the UN as follows: “We were attracting the attention of the UN because of how we were helping with AHBAPs and they invited us as a speaker.”

Explaining that they expected him to make a speech about AHBAP, Levent said, “But I couldn’t in good conscience. I woke up in the morning and saw on the news that WHO had published a report in the morning. It says that 600 thousand children are in danger at the Rafah border gate.”

  • “I said, Haluk, what can you do? We introduced AHBAP, we built houses, we built schools, these things can be done, but you have such an opportunity. You have such an opportunity at the UN, let the whole world hear.
  • What was Netanyahu saying, “We responded to the attacks.” I said, “Tell me how you can defend the death of 10 thousand children against the attack.
  • The UN needs to be more active, it needs to be more independent, but the lady tried to interrupt me, it was political.
