Google will invest 1 billion euros in its data center in Finland for AI business growth in Europe.
Google announced that it will invest an additional 1 billion euros in the expansion of its data center campus in Finland to support artificial intelligence (AI) business growth in Europe.
In recent years, many tech companies have been moving their data centers to the Nordic countries. The reasons include the region’s cool climate, tax breaks and abundant renewable energy resources. Finland’s Nordic neighbors Sweden and Norway are also becoming increasingly attractive.
Some industry experts argue that the Nordic countries should use their renewable energy resources for higher value-added products, such as green steel.
Analysts predict that the energy consumption of data centers will increase substantially due to the rapid growth in the use of artificial intelligence. Google cited the fact that its Hamina data center in Finland already runs on 97 percent carbon-free energy as one of the reasons behind its investment decision.
