In Bolu’s Mudurnu district, the area where a Byzantine-era historical tomb was found during the excavation for a water tank for the village was declared a Grade 3 Archaeological Site.
The construction of a water tank was started in January to meet the water needs of Samsaçavuş village in Mudurnu district. A historical grave was found during the foundation excavation. Archaeologists from the Bolu Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, who came to the area upon notification, determined that the grave belonged to the Byzantine period. An application was made to the Ankara Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Assets on March 5 to evaluate the area where the tomb was found as a protected area. Upon the application, the authorities examined the grave site. As a result of the examinations, the area was determined as a 3rd Degree Archaeological Site and the decision was published in the Official Gazette. Within the scope of the decision, permission will be required before any work to be carried out in the area.
