Denmark to plant 1 billion trees in 20 years and convert 10% of Agricultural Land into Forests.

Denmark takes a major step in combating climate change. Political parties in the country have agreed to plant 1 billion trees over the next 20 years and convert 10% of agricultural land into forest areas. These measures are seen as significant steps toward reducing fertilizer use and achieving the target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030.

This agreement, known as the Green Triple Agreement, was accepted by a coalition government consisting of the Social Democrats, Liberals, and Moderates, as well as the Socialist People’s Party, Conservative People’s Party, Liberal Alliance, and Social Liberal Party. Under the agreement, a budget of $6.1 billion will be allocated to purchase land from farmers, and necessary legal adjustments will be made. Significant changes in the country’s natural landscape are expected.

Additionally, a tax will be imposed on livestock emissions starting in 2030 to reduce methane gas emissions. This tax will be based on the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions from the livestock sector.

These plans align with the United Nations’ climate goals, which aim to limit the global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, as stipulated in the Paris Climate Agreement. Denmark is expected to set an important example by achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions to meet these targets.
