The death toll from the collapse of a multi-storey building under construction in George, South Africa, on May 6 has risen to 19. In a statement made by the George Municipality, it was stated that 48 of the 81 construction workers who were trapped under the collapse have so far been pulled from the rubble.

Although 7 days have passed since the incident, 33 people are still being searched under the rubble. It was stated that 14 of the injured workers are still being treated in hospital.

The multi-storey building under construction at the corner of Victoria and York streets in the center of St. George collapsed on May 6. After the incident, the municipality first announced the number of people in the building as 75, and later updated this number to 81.

Rescue teams are continuing their search efforts. This tragic incident is being met with great sadness and concern in the country.
