CHP Deputy Chairman Yalçın Karatepe and the CHP’s economic staff will hold an expected meeting with Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek today. The new tax package, minimum wage, pensions and inflation are on the agenda.
Yalçın Karatepe and his economic staff will meet with Minister Şimşek at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance at 10:00 am. During the meeting, Karatepe will express his demand for fairness in taxation and his proposals for improvements in the minimum wage and the lowest pension.
Report prepared for tax reform
Before the visit, the CHP delegation discussed the issues to be discussed during the meeting with Şimşek.
The delegation prepared a report with suggestions for the tax package the government is currently working on. The CHP staff will also present to the Minister of Treasury and Finance the issues that need urgent measures.
The new tax package, which has been a topic of discussion in recent days and is expected to be submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly as a bill, is expected to be on the agenda during the meeting.
It was on the agenda during Erdoğan’s visit
The visit came up during President Erdoğan’s return visit to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel on June 11. During the meeting between Özel and Erdoğan, the CHP’s criticisms and suggestions regarding the economy were clarified in the form of a meeting between the CHP’s economic staff and Minister Şimşek upon Erdoğan’s suggestion.
Minimum wage and pensions are also on the table
Yalçın Karatepe, Deputy Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), also announced the topics he will raise with Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek in their upcoming meeting. The main agenda items of the meeting include increases in the minimum wage and pensions, increasing agricultural subsidies, TurkStat data, Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects and the Wealth Fund.
According to the news in Cumhuriyet Newspaper, Karatepe will criticize the government’s economic policies and emphasize that the minimum wage should be increased by the rate of inflation. He will also argue that pensions should be increased above the inflation rate. The CHP deputy will also make suggestions on tax justice, noting that a large portion of tax revenues are made up of indirect taxes and that this situation is unfair.
Noting that agricultural subsidies are insufficient, Karatepe claimed that existing laws on this issue are not being implemented. He will also criticize the reliability of TurkStat data and the burden of PPP projects on the public.
According to Karatepe, this meeting does not imply the preparation of an economic program, but only aims to find solutions to the problems of citizens.
