Chinese coast guard vessels violated Japanese national territorial waters around the disputed Senkaku Archipelago in the East China Sea.
According to a statement from the 11th District Coast Guard Headquarters in Naha, Okinawa, three Chinese coast guard vessels entered Japanese territorial waters.
Japan’s Coast Guard warned the Chinese ships, which entered the Taişo and Minamikojima areas of the archipelago and approached Japanese fishing vessels here.
After warning and prevention activities, the Chinese ships left the region. It was stated that the violation in question occurred for the 21st time this year around the same archipelago.
Disputed islands
The archipelagos, which Japan calls “Senkaku” and China calls “Diaoyü”, are located in the East China Sea off the east coast of China and the southwest coast of Japan.
Consisting of 5 islands and 3 reefs, the region, which is owned by Japan and claimed by China and on which no one lives, has been causing sovereignty disputes for a long time.
