The trial of Uğur Cöddü (38), who allegedly killed his divorced wife Burcu Cöddü (31) and attempted to kill his 2 brothers-in-law with a gun, started in Adana. Uğur Cöddü was put on trial for the murder of his wife Burcu Cöddü, who was going through a divorce, and for attempting to kill his two sisters-in-law with a gun. According to the allegations, on May 15, 2023, the date of the incident, an argument broke out between Burcu Cöddü and his wife, who went to her husband’s house to buy books and school clothes for the couple’s children. As the argument turned into a fight, Uğur Cöddü killed his wife with a gun and attacked his brothers-in-law.

The first hearing of the case against Uğur Cöddü, who was arrested after the incident, was held at Adana 11th Assize Court. During the hearing, the family of the murdered Burcu Cöddü and other witnesses testified. Security camera footage was also examined in court.

The prosecutor’s office demanded aggravated life imprisonment for Uğur Cöddü on charges of ‘intentional murder against wife and woman, attempted intentional murder’. Various charges were also brought against the other defendants.

During the hearing, Burcu Cöddü’s family and witnesses’ testimonies revealed the blood-curdling details of the incident. The family stated that although they had not been getting along for a long time, they had reconciled and Burcu wanted a divorce.

The court ruled that the arrested defendant Uğur Cöddü must be present at the hearings, while other defendants will be heard in the upcoming period.
