The Ministry of Trade announced that it has been decided to apply additional customs duty on the import of conventional (internal combustion) and hybrid passenger cars originating from the People’s Republic of China.

In the written statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that the necessary regulations regarding imports were made in consultation with the relevant institutions in line with the international agreements, consumer safety, protection of public health, protection of the market share of domestic production, encouraging domestic investments and reducing the current account deficit in the Import Regime Decree and its annexes. In this context, it is stated that additional customs duty is applied together with customs duty on imports of some goods from countries other than European Union members and countries with which Free Trade Agreements have been signed, “The additional customs duties applied are updated taking into account the developments in economic and commercial life and sectoral needs. In this context, in order to increase and protect the share of domestic production in the domestic market, taking into account the developments regarding the foreign trade balance and our current deficit targets, as well as to encourage domestic investment and production, With the Presidential Decree dated June 7, 2024 and numbered 8639 published in today’s Official Gazette, it has been decided to apply additional customs duty in the form of ’40 percent of the import value or the higher of 7 thousand dollars / unit is applied’ on the import of conventional and hybrid passenger cars originating from the People’s Republic of China, which are classified under Customs Tariff Position 8703.”

In the statement, it was reported that the Ministry of Trade will continue to effectively regulate and implement import policies in line with the aims of achieving domestic production, employment, foreign trade and current account balance targets.
