Morocco Enters a New Era of High-Speed Rail Projects Under the Transformative Morocco Railway Plan 2040.

Ambitious Strategy to Expand Morocco’s Railway Network.

This bold strategy includes expanding the TGV network to 1,500 kilometers and deploying tramways and commuter trains in major cities.

Modernization and Innovation

The plan encompasses critical elements such as modernizing existing railway stations, enhancing maintenance infrastructure, and optimizing connections on traditional networks. This comprehensive transformation is set to make a significant contribution to Morocco’s national economy.

Active Participation of Local Companies

Local firms such as GTR, TGCC, Jet Contractors, and Mojazine are actively involved in the project, ensuring more efficient use of domestic resources.

Strong Presence of Chinese Companies

Chinese firms play a prominent role in Morocco’s railway projects. Covec Group became the fourth Chinese company to secure a major contract for the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line, undertaking key works such as excavation, construction of art structures, and fence installations around Casablanca.

Other major Chinese firms, including CRCC 20, China Railway No. 4 Engineering, and Shandong High-Speed Engineering-Construction, have collectively signed contracts worth over 10 billion dirhams.

Africa’s First High-Speed Train: Al Boraq

Morocco became the first African country to adopt high-speed train technology with the launch of Al Boraq in 2018. Operating at speeds of 320 km/h, the train reduced travel time between Tangier and Casablanca from 4 hours 45 minutes to just 2 hours 10 minutes.

Future phases of the project plan to extend the network to Marrakech, Agadir, and northern Morocco. Powered entirely by renewable energy from wind turbines, Al Boraq is also a model of environmentally friendly transportation.

These groundbreaking advancements solidify Morocco’s position as a regional leader in the railway sector.
