According to CRA data, the number of equity investors started to decline after its record high on May 18. As of May 25, the number of investors decreased by 46 thousand 127 people compared to the previous week. The total number of investors decreased to 8 million 578 thousand 116 from the record level of 8 million 614 thousand 243.
While the positive performance of the stock market is effective in the increase in the number of investors, new public offerings also accelerate the inflow of investors. However, profit sales after IPOs led to a decline in the number of investors in the last week.
In the first 5 months of this year, 17 companies went public. In the market where investor interest in IPOs started to decline, the share prices of some companies fell below the IPO level. Of the 17 public offerings this year, 6 took place in February, 3 in March, 1 in April and the remaining 7 in May.
Three of the companies that went public this year fell below the IPO price and upset their investors. The IPO index, which broke a record with 119,296 points in February, fell to 96,895 points as of Friday. Experts say the recent losses in IPOs will negatively affect investor interest.
