In the natural gas exploration works carried out in Tekirdağ and Silivri, 300 million cubic meters of natural gas reserves with an economic value of 3 billion TL were reached in 4 new wells. The natural gas extracted will start to be distributed to industrial facilities within 2 weeks.
Trakya Basin Natural Gas Company (TBNG), one of Turkey’s natural gas production companies, started extracting gas from new wells drilled in Silivri and Tekirdağ within the framework of the New Drilling Program for 2024, prepared with the support of the Presidential Investment Office. In 4 new wells drilled with an investment of 10 million dollars, 300 million cubic meters of natural gas reserves with an economic value of 3 billion TL were reached. With the first fire lit first in Silivri and then in Tekirdağ, the existing reserve became ready for distribution. TBNG, which has the capacity to extract 250 thousand cubic meters of natural gas per day from a total of 85 wells in Tekirdağ and Silivri, aims to increase daily production by 50 percent with the 2024 drilling program. With the completion of the drilling program, the expected daily production increase is expected to be 125 thousand cubic meters.
“Domestic and National Natural Gas”
TBNG CEO Sinan Furat, who made statements about the work carried out, said, “As of last night, we started gas combustion in the field we previously discovered in Tekirdağ and actually started the production phase. We are starting to extract this domestic and national natural gas, which we have brought to our country, from 2,800 meters below the ground and start delivering it to industrialists in our region this week.”
“As private sector players, we continue to follow in TPAO’s footsteps”
Sinan Furat, CEO of the company, said in a statement: “We are currently in Köseilyas Neighborhood of Tekirdağ, we see the drilling activities carried out by our company here. This is the fourth well of our 2024 drilling program. Our first well was in Silivri, then we completed the drilling activities of our 2nd and 3rd wells in Tekirdağ and put them into production. We are currently targeting a daily production of 50 thousand cubic meters in our Köseilyas Neighborhood. Our drilling activities are about to end, our next test phases will be completed and then we will enter the production phase. Significant breakthroughs have been made in the field of energy in our country in the last 3 years, with the support of our Presidential Investment Office, with the financing resources we have received from abroad, we have now put the natural gas we extract from underground, domestic and national natural gas into production. I would like to emphasize how important the energy supply security of our country is, especially here. Our national pride TPAO is currently continuing oil production in Gabar and natural gas production in the Black Sea. As private sector players, we continue to follow in the footsteps of TPAO. As a country, we are aware that we have to produce our domestic and national energy with domestic resources, especially in energy.”
“We are approaching our goal of increasing production by 50 percent day by day”
CEO Furat continued his statement as follows: “Our drilling activities will continue in 2024, and our next target will be our 5th well in Tekirdağ. In fact, Tekirdağ is a region where natural gas activities have been carried out for a long time. Currently, we already have approximately 85 wells and we produce 250 thousand cubic meters of natural gas per day. At the same time, with the new drilling program, we are getting closer day by day to our goal of increasing production by 50 percent. We will increase this 250 thousand cubic meters of daily production by 50 percent with the wells we have drilled and commissioned. Especially in this sector, we already receive support from our state elders and our ministry regarding our license. We want to increase our investments even more, our investment appetite is quite high, and our aim is to bring more foreign financing to our country and put this financing into the production of domestic and national natural gas. Hopefully, when we receive the necessary support from our state elders in terms of licenses, we will continue our activities for more investments, more drilling, more wells. This, of course, will further reduce our annual energy costs of 50 billion dollars, and our energy imports that we have to buy from abroad. As we have learned from the latest information provided by Mr. Minister, our country is now able to meet nearly 10 percent of its own needs, especially in oil. These figures were our dreams in the past, but today they are being realized. In natural gas, domestic production, which was not even 1 percent 3-4 years ago, has increased to 3 percent in 3 years in a very short time. As far as we understand from the statements of our Minister, this figure will go even higher by the end of the year. This leap in Turkey’s domestic energy production in the field of energy is of course very pleasing for us as sector players. Hopefully, these figures will go even higher in the future.”
100 percent Turkish engineers
Gürkan Karakaya, Technical Manager of the company, said: “We started our drilling activities at the beginning of 2014 and completed our 4th well with this well. Thrace region is a region with a very high potential in terms of reservoir distribution and quality. Especially the discovery of gaseous wells in the wells we drilled this year is an important indicator of this high potential. We continue our exploration and production activities. With this well, we will start our drilling activities again next year with the technical work of our 100 percent Turkish engineers. We discovered a total of 300 million cubic meters of new reserves from the wells we drilled this year. As a company, we have produced approximately 3 and a half billion cubic meters of gas so far. With these wells, we plan to increase production by 50 percent and give this production to our industrialists. With this well, we have burned our gas, we have done our tests, after the tests, we will lay our pipelines and bring the gas we have found here to the industrialists within two weeks.”
