After the price of bread became 10 TL with the new price hike decision in Eskişehir, farmers stated that the new price of wheat, which was 8 TL per kilogram last year, should be announced.
The price of 200 gram bread in Eskişehir became 10 TL after the latest decision. After the decision to raise the price, the producer of wheat, which had a price of 8 TL per kilogram last year, suffers from the fact that the new prices have not yet been announced. Stating that their expenses have increased, farmers stated that new wheat prices should be announced. After the recent rains, farmers also talked about wheat yield. Producers were hopeful that the product, which was between 700 and 800 kilograms per acre last year, would be the same or even more this year.
“Our producers are victimized here”
Süleyman Buluşan, President of Yeşil Sakarya Producers, stated that the new price of wheat, which is 8 liras per kilogram, should be announced. Speaking about the wheat being 8 liras when the bread is 10 TL, Buluşan said, “Now, if you ask us producers to evaluate the price of today’s bread, we, as producers, sold wheat between 6 liras and 8 liras. Now you see the wheat in the form of heads. There is no wheat at the moment. Our producers are not getting their rights. Now, we don’t care about the baker’s bread or the labor of other cost makers, but the fact is that bread has been raised 3 times in one year. On what basis was this hike based? Based on costs. So why can’t the producer get a healthy price for the product he produces once a year? Last year, our vegetable producer sold his wheat between 6 TL and 8 TL as a result of planting grain for a change of location. So today we cannot say that he sold his wheat for 8 TL or sold his wheat for 10 TL. What is the reason for this? And he did not get enough weight. In this respect, our producers are victimized here. We have a single reason target here. We say that the producer should be able to get his/her right. Today, when we compare a kilo of wheat to a loaf of bread, our producers are victimized here and at the same time the consumer is also victimized,” he said.
“I hope we will get around 700 to 800 kilograms again”
Farmer Mehmet Kırımlıoğlu, who produces wheat in Eskişehir, said the following about the yield;
“I am a farmer in the Zincirlikuyu region. I plant cereals, wheat, barley, sugar beet, carrots and parsley. When we planted them, you know we had a very dry season. We had a very dry season going into winter. That’s why we gave extraction water to extract them. So thanks to this, our yield is a little better than other peers. We used our water advantage, but we don’t have the same yield in the fields we cultivate. It is a little lower because our crops came out a little later due to the lack of water and the effect of precipitation, so there was less tillering. Last year in our region, we received approximately 700 to 800 kilograms of product. If we are lucky, after the last rains, we did our own irrigation and fertilizer maintenance, so I do not expect it to fall below this figure, I hope we will get around 700 to 800 kilograms again. So if it turns out, of course, we will be happy if it is good, even if we look bad, they said that it will make the tonnage better for the seed we buy. I have just planted this seed, I hope I will get more. This year because of the rainfall because the rains came late. That’s why there is no rust disease or any other disease. In other words, we are already spraying our pesticides and doing the maintenance, so we don’t have a disease situation.”
“The wheat price remained a little low”
Speaking about the prices, farmer Mehmet Kırımlıoğlu said, “If the prices stay like this right now, this will make the producers very victimized. Last year there was a serious increase in plantings, but as far as I see in my neighborhood, there is a serious decrease in the opposite. In other words, people are running away from wheat cultivation. If you ask why they are running away, there is an expense, there is the cost of inputs. The wheat price remained a little low, below the costs. Last year we also had a big problem with the offices in terms of deliveries. They switched to an appointment system, we threshed, and we were left with wheat on our backs. According to the order given by the office, we had to deliver it 15 days later and 20 days later, which made the farmers very upset. I hope that this year, they will take into account the inflation rates or something like that and come up with a price according to our increases. Our farmers will also be happy. Accordingly, now bakers know the cost of this business better. I am not a baker, but of course, when the price of this bread is like this, I expected my wheat to be a little higher. According to the money I pay, the bread should be cheaper. I mean, according to my calculation, but the calculation of the baker friends is definitely different according to themselves.”
